I got my 2nd mid chemo MRI results today and it's shrunk by only about 1mm. Now for those who you who think this is great and I should be shouting with joy from the rooftops, let's get a little bit of context. My 1st mid chemo MRI shrunk the damn thing from a whopping 56mm to 11mm, so it is fair to say that I was expecting nothing to be left and a measly 1mm was pretty disheartening to put it lightly.
The oncologist, who is lovely but talks in a different language, had mentioned last time that she was hopeful of a “complete response” but today talked about “some enhancement”, which left me confused.
So I went for a walk after her call, thought about a few questions that I didn't have time to process whilst talking to her, and sent her a text. Within 2 hours she had called me again and explained that the MRI often won't see the last detail and that we will only know the response to chemo for sure after surgery when pathology test the area they remove. She reminded me that I had had a “fabulous response” to chemo (no translation required for that) and left me feeling mich better.
My thought for the day. My consultant is incredibly caring and attentive and I sometimes need time to process information around this new subject and reflect on what I understand.
Roll on chemo 5 (of 6) tomorrow!
