Less than one minute read time.
Hi everyone Just wanted to know if iv chemotherapy has affected anyones breathing. My partner started the course 3 months a go and has now started to eperience breathlessness. She is obviously concerned that either the cancer has gone to her lungs(although she had a chest x ray last week which appeared to be normal)or can this side effect occur with the chemo. If anyone can enlighten me I would be most appreciative

    Hi Oinkers,

I have just finished six months chemo (zeloda) and part way through became breathless and by the end of a week suffered pain at the end of each breath, also I was very tired, I eventually rang the hospital and after describing my symptoms was told to come straight in,by the next morning was told as well as a chest infection I had a clot on each lung.I was treated with injections of clexane (Heperin) which stops more clots forming while the body gradually dissolves existing clots.I understand Chemo can cause blood clots which are life threatening, also cancer can cause them.I think anaemia can also cause breathlessness.I hope your partner is suffering none of this but I believe you should check it out as soon as possible, you may save her life.Would be grateful if you could let me know how she and if the problem is resolved.

    Best Wishes,

I'm on my 8th cycle of Xeloda and about half way through started to get chest pains and trouble breathing.  I was sent for an x-ray which was clear, as there seemed to be nothing else wrong with me they put it down to the chemo drugs.  A side effect of Xeloda is anaemia so maybe this is the cause but I think you should get this checked out as soon as possible too.  Every time I have any side effects I phone the chemo nurses immediately, I've had infections twice before while on the treatment and don't want to take any risks.

Hope everything works out okay and they find it's nothing that can't be sorted out.

    Marie x
