My fingernails just started hurting. The papers from the doctors say "fingernail changes are likely." hmm On the internet, I find that Taxanes (Taxol, Taxotere, Docetaxel) often cause discoloration, pain, and nails may loosen or fall off. Anyone else know anything?

my toenails loosend and lifted upwards whilst having Carboplatin and Cisplatin. I didn't bother to find out why, just that it was obviously due to treatment. They have remained in place but havent grown since treatment.
I had taxol and unfortunately my fingernails and toesnails came off in the end. I must stress this was an extreme reaction though. Most people find they are sore and some may lift off during treatment, on a lighter note, mine have all grown back bran spanking new!
My partner was on taxol and her finger nails discoloured. Her toesnails discoloured and started to lift. We thought maybe they were worse effect due to being stuck inside shoes all day, so she started to wear open toe shoes. When they started to lift I used to get some olive oil and gently used a cotton budstick to try and moisturise them and they did stay on even after 5 and half months of weekly chemo.
Word of advice if your thinking of painting them. The nurses told us it was fine to use nail varnish. If you do, don't use quick drying nail varnish and use acetone free nail varnish remover, or else it will cause further damage to ur nails. Her damaged nails eventually grew out and returned back to normal. x
I didn't lose nails but they were all heavily ridged and now that the ridges have grown out, they are very brittle and are easily damaged if not kept well trimmed so that the corners don't catch on anything.
