I’ve just been diagnosed with NHL but have yet to find out which type it is. I can understand that the next few months will bring with it some emotional ups and downs, and I’m sure talking to a bunch of people who are going through the same ordeals will be a good thing.
Talking of ups and downs – Has anyone else had a diagnosis like the one I had, whereby I was given the bad news, then given the all clear and once again given bad news…all in the space of half an hour!
In a nutshell this is what happened.
Mr S the ENT Consultant 10.30am
“I’m very sorry to tell you that the lump we removed was a Lymphoma, I’m now referring you to a colleague of mine whose field this is, and he will be looking after your case from now on.”
We (the wife and I) stumbled along to Mr K in the Haematologist/Oncologist Department 10.45am
“There seems to be some mistake, looking at the report it states you have a Lipoma, and that’s very good news! I’ll just phone my colleague to confirm that this is correct.”
(Can you imagine how our spirits soared???)
After contacting Mr S and then calling the lab that produced the results…his expression changed.
10.55am
“Sorry but, the first diagnosis was correct, you do have Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.”
Despite the unusual way of finding out I have this thing, I am determined to stay positive and try and look on the bright side. The only plus point I’ve found so far is, if I’m laid off work and find myself on benefits, I understand I’m entitled to a free wig….Happy days!
