Today is World Cancer Day. In this blog, quality and evaluation officer Rachael highlights the different ways in which Macmillan offers information and support.
‘Whoever you are, you have the power to reduce the impact of cancer for yourself, the people you love and for the world.’ This is the message of World Cancer Day, which falls on 4th February each year.
2019 marks the launch of World Cancer Day’s 3-year ‘I Am and I Will’ campaign. It challenges each of us to do what we can to make life better for people with cancer.
We’re here for everyone
Macmillan serves the whole of the UK. We want everyone with cancer to live as fully as they can, wherever in the UK they call home and whatever their life experience.
Our volunteers make a real difference
We couldn’t do this without the efforts our volunteers, who give their time and skills to help others in their community.
Ravinder’s story
After using Macmillan’s services when she had breast cancer, Ravinder decided to become a volunteer, through fundraising, talking to her local community, and generating press coverage.
Ravinder has dedicated much time and energy to changing the stigma around cancer that she felt to be an issue in the Asian community. You can learn more about Ravinder’s story here.
Vivek’s story
After Macmillan supported Vivek through his diagnosis and treatment for a brain tumour, he wanted to give something back. Vivek began helping out at his local Macmillan centre and ran support groups. You can learn more about Vivek’s story here.

Asking for help
Sometimes the most important thing any of us can do is ask for help – whether that’s information, advice or support. Call the Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 00 00, 7 days a week, 8am to 8pm. We have access to an interpretation service in over 200 languages so people can speak in their own language, via an interpreter.
Information for everyone
If you want to read or listen to our information, you can choose from a range of languages and formats:
