HOME – AGAIN (1 July 2020)

1 minute read time.

Being hitched up to the IV machine for 6.5 hours a day for the last week has done the job and wife brought me home last night.

Bladder flushes are back to every 6 hours, so without hospital noise and light, plus only 1 bag to worry about and being totally sleep deprived I managed a solid run of over 5 hours sleep last night. That’s the most since my operation on 15th June. Boy do I feel refreshed after that.
It may have helped that I had a solitary Budweiser when I got home. My first beer since pre-op.
Maybe hospitals are missing a trick and alcohol should be mandatory in the recovery program.

Apart from phone check-ins with my urology nurse and a clinic visit next Thursday, and of course assuming no more mini disasters, then this blog will go quiet.
I’ll pop a quick weekly update in hopefully confirming all is well.

In three weeks time I go back to Charing Cross for a Cystogram (X-ray of bladder with contrast dye). This is to check for any small leaks in Neobladder.
If none then the catheter will be removed and I will stay the night and begin my new bladder training, which in the first instance will be emptying it naturally every hour for 24 hours, and then checking for residue via self catheterisation.
That’ll be a long 24 hours.
If any leaks, then catheter remains in for a couple more weeks and another Cystogram performed.

In the meantime I have to take it easy, eat, drink, watch Netflix, read and test wife’s patience (can I find her sympathy breaking point?)

Hopefully next update in a week, to let you know all is on track.
