Should I be back at work?

Less than one minute read time.

I finisished my five weeks of radiotherapy two weeks ago - and am still waiting the results of the CT scan for a shadow on my lung - BUT this morning I had a phone call from work.  NO PRESSURE -  BUT WHEN DO I THINK I WILL BE BACK AT WORK?

I am all confused - I have been signed off by the doctor - but feel I am not really ill.  I am not really well either - but am not sure how well I am at present to do my job.

I have an Oncology appointment just before Christmas - but up to now every time I have seen an Oncologist - it has been a different doctor, and are often very difficult to understand.

Has anyone else had problems regarding going back to work?

i think your the best person to answer your question...if you feel up to going back to work then give it a go, BUT if you dont feel up to it then dont go back...best thing to do is whatever you want to do..if you dont want to go then dont let anyone rush you..

    Hi Maralyn,

I made it i to work today for a few hours and am now knackered hun so do not push yourself.

If you have been signed off work then your company needs to be very careful about possible harassment when asking you when you are coming back to work. As already mentioned if you have been signed off then you need to be signed fit to work by the doctor so you take your time and you will know when you are ready.

    take care love Terri xxx

    Hi Maralyn

So far I have continued to go to work while undergoing radiotherapy BUT I only work two days a week even so I have decided to see my GP at the end of this week and ask him to sign me off work next week as I am starting to get very tired. As others have said don't go back till you feel ready

As others have said, don't rush into going back, you don't want to return to work, to find it was too soon, and then you're just off on a 2nd period of sick leave, which a poor employer might turn to their advantage. In times of recession we all understand that employers have to make every penny count, especially thier payroll budget. But, employment law is on your side.

My advice, is keep everything documented, and put your proposals about a phased return, in writing to them.

My husband is planning to go back to work soon, but it will be two years since he was last there, they tried to sack him, but at the appeal meeting, we started quoting empoyees rights, and the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) which covers all cancer patients, they soon backed down, reinstated him, and after he exhausted their period of statitury sick pay, he simply went straight onto Incapacity Benefit, know now as ESA.

You owe it to yourself to do what feels right for you.

    Good luck, whatever you decide.
