Chemo Cycle 6 Starts - The Beginning of the End!

1 minute read time.

Finally Sal's 6th and final chemo cycle has arrived. She had the treatment this morning and as it has been on all 6 cycles there was no reaction at all during treatment.

She is in bed now though because again, as with the previous cycles, she gets very tired very quickly and this combined with her getting very little sleep last night from the steroids she is completely shattered.

We have agreed that her Hickman line will remain in for at least 4 weeks while she recoveres from this cycle just in case it is needed.

Sal will have a meeting with the oncologist to review chemo as a whole in 2-3weeks time (date to be set).

Radiotherapy will commence in about 4 weks time (date yet to be set).

From my personal point of view I am glad that the end of chemo is now in sight. It will be great to get back to some level of normality in a few weeks when Sal has started to recover. We have coped well but this treatment schedule is difficult regardless of how resiliant and positive you are... eventually it gets to you in one way or another.

I apologise for not reporting as often as in the early days of treatment. We have been spending less and less time thinking about cancer and treatment and more and more time trying to do normal things. This strategy has worked well and allowed us to cope with things without it becoming all-consuming... something we tried to avoid right from the start.

So recovery from cycle 6 then radiotherapy... bring it on!

Congratulations to you both. I hope the radiotherapy is an easier ride, I have heard that it usually is.

Enjoy life now as much as you can.

    Hi Snaxmuppet,

Thats great news to hear Sal has finished her chemo. You both have the right idea spending less time thinking about the Cancer Treatment and just thinking about normal things. Lets hope it continues

and Sal keeps improving. Good Luck to you Both.

Take care and be safe Sarsfield.

Hope the final chemo cycle goes well. One more hurdle to go and treatment will hopefully be all finished. Unless hormone treatment is to be given, but that's not as bad as chemo and rads.

    Best wishes, Christine xx

Good evening snaxmuppet and thanks for sparing the time to bring us all up to date - I've read about you both and thought about you both and am so pleased the final chemo is out of the way.  I understand completely your need to do normal things, yes it does get to you in the end.  As soon as Sal. has got herself together make sure you get plenty of E45 and simple soap to start using before radio and drink lots of water to keep hydrated.  The sooner the better to moisturise for Sal and wear loose clothes - I just wore cotton shirt and covered myself with scarves so no-one knew I was braless!  Have a great weekend and get the champagne on ice.  Congratulations and best wishes from Ann xx

Hi, i did speak to you earlier in the treatment as i am a few weeks ahead of you wife. yes the last chemo for me was 4 weeks ago and today i went and go measured up for radio and had tatoos done. Just remember life will never be the same again but you two have each other which is wonderful. Get aqueous cream and start slapping that on and also use only 'simple' products. i had my hickman line out but make sure she is aware she cant have shower immediatly as it is stiched up for a few days and then she can feel really clean. Pity we dont have any hair to wash on the minus side but plus side we dont have to shave!!! LOL.
