Holiday Insurance - Cancer Patients

Less than one minute read time.

My wife and I have annual travel insurance though Direct Line but pre-existing conditions are not covered.

I was checking around to get some new quotes for Annual Travel insurance and these seem to be around £100-£120 but don't cover anything to do with the bowel cancer.

I phoned one company and they wanted and additinal £960 to cover the bowel cancer!

Hopefully good news is that we bank with NatWest and they have a gold card which costs £12.95 a month but includes breadown cover and worldwide travel insurance. I phoned them and they will cover me for the bowel cancer for an additional premium of £70 a year.

This seems like a really good deal, has anyone else had similar experiences with quotes for Travel Insurance?

Regards

Peter

We went to mia online but looked at a one trip policy which included my daughters brain tumour. About £180 for a weeks cruise for 3 of us. Cruises are always higher apparently - would have been about £130 if normal hol. This was only company I could find who would include existing condition, but have to ring back 2 mths before we leave to actually get policy so had to book and risk deposit or would have missed availability

    hi peter

i have bowel cancer and secondary liver. went to america last year for £130 covering my cancers with Mia Online. they insured the rest of my family too. as they said if they got travel insurance on their own and i had to fly back a normal travel insurance wouldn't cover them to fly with me as the cancer wouldnt be covered by them.

    Hi,

Good to know about the bank. I have t insurance with my bank but it excludes my bowel cancer. I have just gone away a couple of times without any extra cover as I don't feel I will collapse with my stage of this illness (bowel and liver tumours removed, small mets on lung) and I've been fine.

What I would like to know is how does being on or recently off chemo affect cover?

I am going back on it for 6 months but don't fancy going without a holiday.

I was just about to start looking for travel insurance.  We normally get an annual policy which is due for renewal at the end of the month.  After reading the small print this does not cover existing conditions for the first two years!  I will have a look at the bank and Mia though - thanks for asking the question!
