Sunday March 7th - One chemo to go!

1 minute read time.

After a weeks delay due to a low white count mum had her fifth chemo on Friday, Saturday and today.  So far she has followed her usual pattern.  She was fine yesterday even though she had not slept well on Friday night  (we think the steroids keep her awake) and had to take her 3 etoposide bombs.  This morning she took her final 3 etoposide bombs at 7.30 and then slept until 12pm.  She got up and had breakfast and was back in bed ad asleep by 2pm.  She got up at 5.30pm soaking with sweat, we changed the bed and then she had her dinner.  If you've had any experience of night sweats and can offer any hints on how to reduce them please let me know.  I've posted in general cancer discussions.  This is the one thing that is now getting mum down.  When she wakes up she could practically swim out of bed and I'm not joking!

My back has eased quite a bit and I plan to go to work tomorrow.  I did a bit of shopping yesterday and it did play me up after carrying the bags into the house.  Hopefully if I try to take it easy it'll be ok.  The district nurse is coming in the morning to give mum  her injection of neulasta to boost her white cell count before her next chemo on March 26th.  Here's hoping that goes ok because as usual I've googled neulasta and found that there are some side effects.  I've not told mum as I have a strong belief in the power of suggestion so I'll wait and see if she complains of anything and then tell her if it's connected to the injection.  It seems most of the side effects are mild.  I hope so!

I have had neulasta and didnt suffer from any side effect so will keep my findgers crossed your mum has an easy time with it too.

As for the night sweats try googling chillow (think thats right) its a pillow that is supposed to keep your bode temperature level and is supposed to be great for night sweats, hope this helps and am glad your back seems to be easing up.

    take care love Terri xxx

A Chillow could be very helpful - I used one when I had hot flushes. It is like a thin pillow that goes on top of a normal pillow and stays very cool. It should at least keep her head comfortable.

Hope your back gets better soon - important that you look after yourself as much as possible. Split the shopping up into lots of bags if you can and try to have someone else carry it if possible.

Are you thinking of any celebration for when your Mum finishes her chemo? Hopefully it won't be too long now - or does that seem a bit premature at the moment?

Hi teri and Evangeline.  I have ordered mum a chillow which should be delivered in a few days time.

In terms of celebrating the end of chemo we've not planned to.  We don't really plan any more to be honest but if her scan goes well on the 30th I'm sure we'll find some way of celebrating.  We are hoping once all her treatment is finished, including RT, we will be able to get away somewhere for a holiday.  Should have been Florida no might be somewhere like Devon!
