Saturday August 7th 2010 - We're back!

1 minute read time.

Well, we've just got back from La Nucia, after a week of relaxation.  The villa was lovely, great pool and good aircon which was very welcome!  The weather was beautiful and we all had a good time except that mums mouth gave her problems throughout the week.  It was a real shame as mum felt really well but her mouth was extremely painful, possibly due to her refusing to remove her denture and also eating a lot of steak!  After the first couple of days she gave in and kept her denture out when we were at the villa and accepted the need to eat softer food.  Having said this she enjoyed being away and is determined her and I will go back at October half-term!

We will contact the dentist on Monday and ask him to arrange for her to see a specialist at the hospital.  Something he had previously sorted out but which mum cancelled without telling me!  If anyone has dentures and has soft linings or soft plates could you let me know how you've found them.  Mums mouth is obviously very tender and I know you can get soft dentures but when I asked the dentist he said not to get them as they only last about 3 months.  My view is that 3 months may allow her gums time to heal and so it may be worth considering them.  She can't leave her denture out all the time to allow her mouth to heal as she can't eat or drink without it and will definitely not go out in public without it!  She has now been suffering with this for at least 8 weeks and has had 5 visits to the dentist.  Anyone help?

So glad to hear you both had a good time. For what it's worth, I think that soft or flexible dentures sound as though they would do the trick and a quick google suggests they last for longer than 3 months! Probably a bit expensive, but if that's not a problem, then well worth it. Here's hoping the hospital consultant can sort it out forr her.

Thanks for that Evangeline.  Exactlywhat I was thinking.  Cost is not an issue for me as long as mum gets a pain free mouth.  I googled them myself last night and it seems they could last a couple of years if they are looked after properly.  I have a dentist appt myself on Tuesday and will discuss it with the dentist then and get him to arrange an appt with a specialist.  Hope you are doing well. Hi really pleased you both such a wonderful break away, you certainly deserve it as does your mum of course.

Hope you don't mind me asking but which insurance co did you use.

Hope your mum gets some relief in her mouth soon.

    Take care.

Hi Vee.  Thanks for that and, no, I don't mind you asking me what company I used for insurance.  I used miaonline clear2go.  I also got insured with them just in case anything went wrong and we had to come home or stay in Spain.  Mum is 74 so travel insurance is quite pricey anyway.  The total cost for us was £109, a bit expensive for 1 week in Spain but not compared to other quotes I received.  One cancer insurance company wanted £3000 just for mum, outrageous!
