Monday September 13th - Couldn't leave mum and go to work!

1 minute read time.

At 5am this morning I caught my mum going into the bathroom.  She did make it in but I had to help her out.  It seems she accepted the commode but only for a wee!  So when it came time to get up and go to work I just found I couldn't leave her.

I will make the best of the day by letting her do everything for herself as she would have to when I'm at work.  I will also ring Christine and ask her to pay mum a visit.  I will investigate the red button alarms that dial a number for help if pressed and can be worn around the neck.  I am also going to look into care packages and see if maybe we can get someone to just come in around lunch time.  I'll see how she copes today.

I'm watching her every move and she knows it.  She keeps assuring me she'll be fine and is trying her best to walk around with confidence but not really succeeding!  She didn't know I hadn't gone to work this morning and an encouraging thing was that she brought her mobile phone downstairs when she came down.

Right, I'm off to start my phonecalls.  Hopefully, I will be able to go back to work tomorrow and be confident that mum will be ok.

hello caroline, you are dealing with this in exactly the right way, ive seen many familys get it wrong and take away all dignity by putting too much care in to quick ect ,

by sitting back and watching you will enable your mum to still have her dignity and to a certain  extent control over her life , which she is very lucky to have you, i would firmly suggest the idea of the red button , they are fab and you will be able to relax a little bit , but yes i think a pop in at lunchtime will not only help you ,but will be nice for her too see someone ,as a carer my patients in community used to love that ,

if you need any advice or anything im always here :) hugs to you both jenni xxxx

I've thought over the past couple of days that mum has been a wee bit confused.  The Doctors receptionist has just rung to say the Doctor wants to see mum to discuss her blood results.  I asked if it was her sodium level and she said yes.  Tells me it not urgent but he wants to visit within the next couple of days.
