Right well here I am , 4 days post mastectomy and axilla node clearance, sat at my daughter'sdining room listerning to the rain bounce off the conservatory roof and how do I feel!!!!!
sore, stiff , shell shocked and eternally grateful that the surgery went well and i am one (small) step closer to being back to me . According to the surgeon the operation went very well with no nasty surprises and they removed 3.2 Kg !!!!!!! of breast tissue, i've never lost that much in a week before. I have to wait 2 weeks till I know the results of the biopsy but as there is a large delve in my chest I'm thinking they got it all yea!.Despite my nursing background so far i haven't been able to pluck up the courage to look at the wound , just touching my chest dressing is enought for me at the moment but i'll speak to my BC nurse tomorrow.
The actual hospital stay wasn't that bad and all the staff on the ward were fabulous, i had to come home with 2 drains in and only 1 was removed yesterday but the painkillers are great and i'm sleeping well so thats small price to pay.
the most amazing part of all this so far is the fantastic support i've had from my daughter and all friends , i've had texts and messages from so many people offering me good wishes and support that i'm overwhelmed so i do feel the right thing to do when you get the diagnosis of BC is to tell everyone you know , it sorts out the real friends from the others and the real ones are who you need most
xx
