Thought I would create a blog featuring my walks on these beautiful summer evenings, I am so lucky to be living in this rural bliss, I came here with my mum and step-dad 8 years ago, away from the bright and hectic life of city living (Leeds) dont get me wrong, I still love my home town, I have family there and visit regularly, but I am so happy to come back to my idyll, I have to walk mum's dog as she is too ill, I lost my little pooch 5 weeks ago and miss him dearly.......Anyway, as some of you might know I write a bit of poetry, and would like to share with you the poem I wrote tonight, I hope it brings some joy to the people on here that are not fortunate enought to enjoy the sunny days, as my mum isnt, she has always been an outdoor person, used to take me hiking in the Dales, she hasnt been out of the house for some weeks now, only to visit the hospital, I did take some pics of 'my field' but I cant find my card reader arghhhhhhhhh, will upload tomorrow for a visual as well as verbal impression.........

Midsummer poppies

As I walked along in the warm evening haze

A sea of red set my eyes ablaze

A field of poppies dancing around

A whimsical petal floated to the ground

Then took off again in the gentle breeze

Gracefully floating, amongst the buzz of the bees

The beckoning silence, called me to see

Led me to this place, so calming and free

A butterfly flutters gently past

An owl ventures early, from his daily fast

This field is my sanctuary, where nothing hurries

To reflect on the day rid my mind of worries

I will close my eyes, when I go to bed

Imagine I’m swimming in the sea of red

Morning comes, what the day brings, we’ll see

My field of poppies will be waiting for me

I’ll tell them my worries, and they’ll answer me

With a flutter of petals, smiling with glee

Don’t worry, they’ll whisper, were here for you

As the sun sets magnificently, reflecting their hue

I plucked a poppy, Im sure it didn’t mind

Gave it to my mum, I hope she can find

The essence of summer, in that pretty stem

And the promise that, she will feel again

The sun on her face, the wind in her hair

I promise mum, I will take you there……..

What beautiful words and lovely pictures.  I don't think I've ever seen so many poppies together in one place.

Like you, I have to walk my little dog on my own when John's not feeling up to it.  It breaks my heart that I can't share the beauty of nature with him sometimes and that I can only go home and tell him what I've seen and heard.

Our favourite walk is in the grounds of a nearby castle along the clifftop.  We stroll quietly through the woods then sit on a bench and look out to sea.  The power of nature is very healing.

I hope your Mum is able to get out and about soon and enjoy it once more but she's lucky to have such a caring daughter to bring a bit of nature into her life.

Lots of love and *hugs* to you and your mum
