DISTRESSING!!!!

Less than one minute read time.

I havn't been on here in a while as things were going well for my dad. Palliative radio and chemotherapy were working. However, he didn't finish the last round of chemo as his platelets were low and a transfusion didn't help. He now lives  me, my husband and our 12yr old son. In the last month his health has deteriorated rapidly. The last week has been so DISTRESSING. He only gets out of bed to use bathroom, sleeps most of time, hardly eats and is in so much pain. I thought I could cope looking after him at home but I need professional help. I know a hospice or hospital is the best place for him but I don't think he is mentally ready for that. I love him with all my heart but there is only so much we can do for him. Can anyone tell me how to get in touch with my local Macmillan nurse please.

Hi Lotr-sarah So sorry to hear about your Dad. The Macmillan helpline will put you in touch with someone to help you. The helpline number is 0808 808 00 00 and they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 8 pm. Macmillan will also be able to talk to you about any benefits you can claim, or how to get any equipment you need to make things more comfortable for him. Your Dad's GP should be able to help put you in touch with the local Macmillan nurse. The surgery should have an out of hours number if you need advice today. Otherwise the hospital should also be able to help you today. Hope your Dad is more comfortable soon.

I'm so sorry. My sister died eight years ago - and the one constant and reliable source of help and support was MacMilllan. They were there throughout, and eventually made it possible for her to die in her own home.

I too now have cancer - leukaemia and will be grateful for any support they can give me.
