Yesterday Has Gone

1 minute read time.

Well I’m encouraged to see I got a few likes for my last entry so I’ll carry on with my new style inspirational blog.  Do feel free to join in with any inspirational quotes of your own.

I previously mentioned my meditation teacher and these are some more words he shared with me.  He said they summed up his philosophy that you need to forget about the past, live for the moment and not worry about the future.

“Yesterday has just departed, yet tomorrow hasn't started, all that really matters is right now.  And you should live a lifetime in each minute, take the sweetness from within it.”

I loved these inspiring words so I carefully wrote them down in a notebook, which I’ve still got 35 years later, and I started trying to live my life by them.  It was only several years later that I discovered that they are the opening lines of “Yesterday Has Gone”.  So I’m playing that today while I’m writing this.  I do have four versions of the song in my music collection by different artists but my favourite is by Cupid’s Inspiration.  I may have to play some of the others too as it’s a short song and I can’t type that fast!

I started learning Mindfulness last year and in the first lesson my teacher said there were some song lyrics which helped explain the concept of Mindfulness in simple terms.  To my surprise he started reciting from “Yesterday Has Gone”.  It was at that point that I realised that I might have not known what it was called at the time but I’d first been introduced to a basic form of Mindfulness all those years ago.

I’ve played the song many times over the years when I’ve need the reminder that worrying about the future doesn’t do you any good.
