Thanks so much for the comments following my last post about hair dye. We will return to that subject at a later date as I have something more important to occupy my thoughts at the moment. I was saying in an earlier post that my family suggested I had a present for getting through my cancer treatment. I have been giving the matter a lot of careful consideration and I have finally made my decision. No it’s not the jukebox or the trip to Hawaii. Neither is it a puppy, diamond jewellery or a designer handbag. Much better than any of that. I have selected the perfect gift and I’m so excited. I am having a wall.
Just in case there is a little bit of head scratching going on I suppose I had better explain. We have a home office which I spend a lot of time in. Not doing work but watching tennis, reading or listening to music. It’s a lovely room with a nice comfy padded chair with armrests, one of those ones you can tilt back or spin round in. The only problem is that it is freezing cold in there. The reason it is so cold is that the previous occupants thought it’d be a good idea to knock down the entire wall between the office and the conservatory. This open plan arrangement is fine when the weather is warmer but it’s completely impractical this time of year.
When husband and I first moved into the house we did discuss the option of having the wall reinstated. However at the time the only builder we knew had the unfortunate reputation of possessing similar skills to Mr O’Reilly in my favourite episode of “Fawlty Towers”. Now we have got to know a decent builder and he has been round and the arrangements have been made. It’s not just going to be a wall, I’m getting a door too!
It’s all a lot more complicated that I thought for and there is whole new vocabulary to learn. Words like architrave. I had to get the dictionary out for that one. The builder can’t say yet when he can start but he promised it’ll be as soon as he can fit it in. It’s going to be wonderful. I will be able to watch the tennis without needing gloves and a blanket. I am trying so hard to be patient but it is very difficult. I want my wall now! We’re only just into the second set tonight and the temperature has already dipped to 13C. Please don’t let there be any long rallies or a tie breaker!
