Happy New Year to all my readers. It feels good now we're into 2107 as I can now say that my 5 years will be up next year. I've been for my hospital check up and my medical team were very pleased with me. I'm now moving from 4 monthly to 6 monthly check ups and they agree with me that my recovery is more or less complete.
I don't usually make New Year's resolutions but this year I have three. Life has been challenging and stressful lately with family and work stuff. So the first resolution is not to get stressed over things I have no control over. My second resolution is to have more “me time”. Regular rests to help manage my energy levels have been neglected lately and I have been told by my medical team that they should be reinstated. I did ask if these rests could include wine and chocolate and the reply was in moderation. So I am going to put my feet up for a couple of afternoons a week and try to finally finish watching all 171 episodes of “Mission Impossible”. Nearly at the end of series six now so just one more series to go.
The last resolution is to finish writing my book. I've found writing my blog very therapeutic so it will be good to have something to take it's place. I started planning a book when I was first diagnosed. It began as a book about dealing with having cancer but I soon decided that was just too depressing. So it changed into a humorous and nostalgic semi-autobiographical tale of teenage angst. That got scrapped when I realised that it wasn't sounding very funny and my childhood friends would probably never speak to me again. So it turned into a torrid chick-lit novel which was soon torn up when friends told me it was a rehash of the plot of every other chick-lit novel they had ever read.
So for my fourth attempt I decided to try something completely different and tried my hand at a sci-fi novel all about alien abduction, That didn't last long as I soon decided it was sounding too silly. Which brings me on to my final try. I think I've cracked it this time. It's all about a woman who has a loving family, a responsible job, and is well respected in the local community. Her world is turned upside down when someone unexpected appears. They know a guilty secret from her past which would ruin her. They blackmail her and in desperation she commits the perfect murder which baffles even the finest brains of Scotland Yard. I'm wondering if our heroine could also fall in love with the Scotland Yard detective but I think that might be a step too far.
I've got my title all worked out. After careful thought I have settled on “The Perfect Murder”. I am going to write the dedication to everyone that has helped me along my cancer journey, and if I manage to sell any copies I am planning a donation to Macmillan. There is just one teeny weeny little stumbling block. I haven't yet managed to figure out how to do the perfect murder.
