The end of tube feeding (hopefully).

1 minute read time.

There have been many days when I thought I'd never get to this stage but I am pleased to report that hopefully I have had my last tube feed.  I was weighed yesterday morning and at long last there was a gain.  Over the weeks they have gradually cut me down from 4 feeds to 1 a day, and now I am finally allowed to stop that last feed.  However I mustn't lose too much weight or tube feeding will be recommencing.  The most important question of course is when do I get the tube finally removed?  That could take a while yet.  I need to maintain my weight for 3 weeks running, and then they will give it consideration.

I now have a second dietician helping me.  This has proved to be a very postive step.  She has more time for me and has bought fresh ideas and menus which seem to suit me better.  There has also been more good news in that I have finally got back my taste for tea.  For weeks I've only been able to drink water or milk with nesquik.  Now I can enjoy a cup of tea again and this has also solved the problem of how to eat biscuits - you just dunk them in the tea!

Today for breakfast I had fried eggs, baked beans and sausages.  With this I had a slice of toast soldiers, crusts removed, which I dipped in the eggs and the baked bean juice.   Mid morning I had a bourbon biscuit and a shortbread finger dipped in my cup of tea.

Lunch was pitta bread with some sour cream and chive dip, followed by a yogurt.  Mid afternoon I had a slice of fruit cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Dinner was steamed noodles and vegetables in a dijon mustard and honey dressing.  Dessert was a banana split made from a banana, squirty brandy flavoured cream, strawberry sauce and chocolate sprinkles.  This evening I will be having a few Doritos with the remainder of the pot of sour cream and chive dip.

You may not hear much from me over the next few weeks, I think I am going to be spending most of my spare time either preparing food or eating it.

Definitely sounds like a full time job! I think you should blog your diet every day, I am already planning to go out and buy brandy flavoured squirty cream, think it might brighten up my morning muesli. Good luck with the weight gain.

Margaret what wonderful news. If there was a moticon which showed a happy happy dance I would put it all over this thread!

Hubby is just entering the feeding tube regime and it's great to tell him about your experience - progress can be made, it all just takes time.

Enjoy every single last crumb of your food. Fine dining  with your husband will be such a treat.

What a milestone for you and great news that your dietician is motivated and supportive.

    Much love xx

    Hi Margaret,

I thought you might be interested to know that Macmillan have a free booklet of recipes you can order (or download) from the be.macmillan part of the website which have been designed especially for people who are recovering from cancer treatments.

Here's a taste (pun regretfully intended) of the sorts of recipes it contains.

I didn't know brandy flavoured squirty cream existed either, but it sounds like a very tasty way of livening up puds (and breakfasts, of course)
