I went to the hospital today for my procedure which goes by the fancy name of an Ultrasound with Fine Guided Needle Aspiration Biopsy. I’ve had one before and it’s not too bad, in my opinion preferable to having a blood test or a trip to the Dentist.
The technician put me on a table and smothered my neck with some cold clear goo, explaining she was going to take some Ultrasound pictures. Then I would be moved to a sterile suite where a Doctor would look at the pictures and decide best where to insert the needle to remove the tissue sample for analysis.
Well I never even made it into the sterile suite because the lady did the Ultrasound and couldn’t see what my Consultant wanted investigating. She went to fetch the Doctor, they did some more pictures and he couldn’t figure it out either. They only had part of my file so they asked me for further explanation of what was removed during my neck dissection. Apparently most patients know this in great detail but unfortunately I wasn’t much help. I prefer to only know what’s going on in vague and simple terms, and my reply of a lump and a few lymph nodes wasn’t enough of an answer.
So they rang the ENT Dept and asked for the rest of my file to be bought along. By the time a Doctor arrived with it the clear goo was rapidly seeping into my clothes and hair. The three of them then went all through my file, more pictures were taken and both the Doctors had a good grope of my neck.
They were unanimous that what the Consultant felt was a mixture of muscle damage and scar tissue which has gone into a state of progressive calcification. So they sent me home.
Thanks to my readers for keeping me company over the last few days, your support has meant a lot to me. I’m going to give the blog a rest for a while now as I very much feel the need to take a break and spend some quality time with my husband.
Oops I nearly forgot to do the music. Today I’m listening to “On The Beach” by Chris Rea, because that’s the plan for the next few days.
