Recently I was introduced to a lovely lady who had cancer many years ago. I always enjoy these opportunities. It really helps me by learning how people have coped and their stories give me hope and encouragement. This lady particularly interested me as she had a change of career forced on her, but it worked out very well. She now has a lucrative business doing fortune telling and tarot readings. She explained to me that she is also training to be a witch so she can diversify into spell casting.
I found this fascinating as I’ve never met a witch before. She then offered to do a spell for me so jokingly I asked for one to restore my hearing. It was just over 16 months ago that I first lost my hearing, an unfortunate consequence of the radiotherapy. The hearing came back to my left ear at Christmas 2013 but my right ear has remained stubbornly blocked ever since.
I definitely don’t believe in witchcraft or the power of spells. But coincidentally something happened the very next evening. I suddenly felt a brief sharp stabbing pain in my right ear and it went all hot and itchy. Then I felt a damp and sticky sensation and some fluid leaked out. When I laid down on the floor to do my daily physio exercises I realised that I could hear perfectly again in my right ear. Unfortunately my hearing disappeared again as soon as I sat up, but after experimenting I have discovered that I can hear fine as long as I either lay flat or tilt my head about 45 degrees to the right.
Whether there will be further recovery I do not know but it is wonderful to be able to hear music through my headphones in stereo again, even though I have to lie on the floor, or tilt my head, to do so. The best bit though is that all the constant noises in my ears that I have lived with for 16 months have disappeared. No more thuds, squelches, clicks or pops. This has cheered me up immensely. Life feels good again.
