First day of my recovery August 1st 2013

1 minute read time.

Woke up determined to try to have a positive day.  First thing that cheered me up was going into the shower and being able to use whatever I wanted on my hair, or should I say on what is left of my hair!  So plenty of conditioner and some hot oil treatment.  I then removed 7 weeks of hair growth from my legs, shame that didn't fall out, and I varnished my toenails.  Slapped on some make up and found something pretty to wear.

I am very pleased about my radiation burns.  When I came home from the hospital last night I was finally allowed to open my supply of Flamazine cream.  It is wonderful.  The skin instantly felt moisturised, and the burnt skin is peeling off already.  I  can see some nice pink skin hiding underneath and my neck doesn't feel so tight anymore.

My husband was at work in the morning so I spent most of my time in our home office.  It was cool in there, and it helped me to find some normal things to do, like the internet banking and shopping.

This afternoon we watched the last episode of "Phoenix Nights" on DVD.  It is one of my favourite programmes.  I found the last 10 days of treatment difficult, so we decided to start watching an episode a night, so I had something to look forward to and to cheer me up.  It was a great help to know that when I finally watched episode 12 that my ordeal would be over.

There are so many things that I want to catch up on around the house, but I know I mustn't exhaust myself.  For now it's nice to just be home and enjoy having familiar things around me.  And not to have to go to the hospital!

Margaret! You go girl! (I hate that phrase but in this circumstance it was definitely required!)

Congratulations on your treatment being complete - you sound so happy and content, almost excited, and I can't blame you!

Good for you and your positive day :)
