Catch Up Time

2 minute read time.

I find myself this morning in the rare situation of having some free time.  No work as it’s the weekend, no gardening as it’s pouring with rain, and no tennis to watch.  So time for a catch up.

I am missing J very much.  Although his death had been expected it was still a shock and I often find it difficult to believe he has gone.  One of his favourite sayings was that the music doesn’t stop playing just because one of the dancers has sat down.  So I shall keep on dancing and try to keep up the positivity he taught me.

My wall eventually got built and I am very pleased with it.  This spurred my husband on to do some decorating.  I have found that my cancer dented our confidence about my health and our long term prospects, but it has given us the confidence to attempt new things.  Many a time we find ourselves saying well if we can deal with cancer then we can cope with anything.  So we tried our hand at some wallpapering.  It does look OK but it’s an experience we won’t be repeating.

Then it was our Wedding Anniversary.  I had been really looking forward to it as last year’s celebrations had to be cancelled because of my cancer.  Unfortunately this year’s planned meal out got postponed as one of our bathroom pipes chose that day to spring a leak.  So we spent the afternoon in the company of the plumber.

I’ve been for my blood test.  I had been dreading it, but I’m pleased to say I was really well behaved this time.  Got through it without feeling sick or faint.  I was quite proud of myself as I have been a complete baby in the past whenever anyone has got near me with a needle.

My saliva is improving and last week I managed to eat my first sandwich.  Tuna, mayo and black pepper in wholemeal bread.  It was a bit of a struggle but I got there.  Next week we are going to Burger King and I am going to attempt a Double Whopper with Cheese and fries.  I have also developed a liking for Mr Kipling’s Fondant Fancies.  So I shouldn’t be surprised that I am now putting on weight and the Dietician is talking about reducing my calories!  Sadly my cake consumption seems to be top of her target list.

I am loving the tennis at the moment.  Last year the French Open was ruined for me as I was in the middle of frequent visits to the hospital for the mask making and treatment planning.  So I am absolutely determined to make the most of this summer, can’t wait for Queens and Wimbledon to start.

When I was first started my blog, which I’ve just noted was a year ago today, I sometimes ended with a positive thought or a song for the day.  That was J’s idea so in his memory let’s do his favourite song.

Song For The Day – “I’m On My Way” by Dean Parrish.
