An update as requested

1 minute read time.

I’ve had a few messages asking how I’m getting on so I thought I’d post a little update.

I’m pleased to say I’m doing very well.  I’m still exploring every alternative therapy I can get my hands on.  Don’t know if any of them are working or not but I’m feeling increasingly better as each week goes on.  The saliva production is definitely increased.  I managed to eat a whole slice of carrot cake last week without the assistance of any ice cream or water.

My energy levels are much better too.  I am regularly walking two miles a day and I have also made a start on the garden.  I‘ve been out there most afternoons recently but today it is chucking it down with rain so I have had to stay indoors.  I had a lovely garden before my cancer.  People would stop and say nice things and ask for cuttings.  Now they frown and tell me I’ve got my work cut out.  I know I have but I like a challenge.  I’ve apparently got a serious slug problem.  I’m told I need to sink yogurt pots full of beer into my borders, but it seems a terrible waste of beer and I can’t bear to drown a living creature.  So they continue to munch their way through the primrose leaves.

I am getting on very well with my Kindle, just downloaded my 100th book.  I’ve done classics and chick lit and I’m now onto murder mysteries.  I’ve got some new music too.  One of my friends has persuaded me that I have misjudged Nick Drake.  She is quite right.  So I apologise for saying his music is depressing.  I’m currently listening to “Bryter Layter” and I’m really getting into it.

Most importantly I am still enjoying tennis.  It’s been a great season so far and I am off now as Murray is just about to come out on court in Miami.

Nice to see you, to see you ......

Glad to hear you're doing well.  I'm sure you will have your flower beds blooming in no time at all, and those slugs will leave for the beer garden next door!

Seems like we have a lot in common Margaret: similar tastes in books (try Sue Grafton's A is for Alibi etc or Ngaio Marsh's Inspector Alleyn's series if you haven't already), music has played a big part in my life with my hubby (we still attend as many concerts as we can afford),  and tennis is my favourite sport to watch (Andy did well this afternoon)!

I have enjoyed following your blogs BUT I understand if you feel that it is time to move on.

    Wishing you continued good health.

Morning Margaret ... glad to know you are doing so well and getting some energy back. Ah the gardening, it is something that takes a bit of easing into so don't go overdoing it now ... and lay a ' beer trail ' to your neighbour's garden for those pesky slugs : )

Books ... I still enjoy reading Agatha's stories about Hercule Poirot !  Take care and enjoy the tennis.

It's a cliché, but not lacking in truth, life goes on. It does. When you've finished with your garden, I've got a double challenge for you!

As for reading matter, Colin Watson's Flaxborough Chronicles are an enjoyable read, and I enjoy the reminder of Brenda Bruce as Miss Teatime when some of them were made into TV programmes. There's Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City series, EF Benson with the Mapp and Lucia stories. If you find you need a challenge, there's always Finnegan's Wake!!!

As for slugs, I have no qualms disposing of them.

Keep up the good work. Just post here from time to time to let us know how you're doing.
