I had an appointment with my oncologist today. She has given me steroids to start tomorrow, in preparation to have my first Docetaxel on Thursday. She also had a chat with me about the possibility of having radiotherapy after chemo. I must be the only person I know who is more scared of radio than chemo. But then I have three more sessions of that to go yet, so things might change.
I was finished so quickly at my appointment, I had time to pay a visit to the local Nottingham Maggies. I met a lovely lady who had not long had her second FEC and wasn't faring as well as I did on that. Had a lovely cuppa and biscuit, followed by an apple. All the staff and volunteers are lovely, but then that is probably true of ALL Maggies staff and volunteers.
I had my fourth chemo, first Docetaxel on Thursday 11th April. The night before I only had two and a half hours sleep, so was exhausted. Derbyshire Transport got me to the hospital at about 10.15am, in plenty of time for my appointment at 11am. But my drugs weren't ready yet so I sat waiting around, and getting more tired by the minute until 1pm!! Transport was supposed to be collecting me at 2pm, so was a bit concerned about being finished on time.
I tried to doze whilst treatment was going in, but too many people chatting, so just rested my eyes. That made me feel a little better. Apart from feeling stressed regarding transport, the treatment went well. No allergic reactions, so the steroids were doing their stuff.
When it was over, it was a couple of minutes after 2pm and my meds to take home weren't ready either!! So I had to wait for someone to fetch them. Happily for me, Derbyshire Transport had told the driver I was in Oncology and he spent 20 minutes looking for me there. Although he wasn't very happy. Anyway, two minutes after my home drugs arrived, the driver did too, so off we set home and I arrived back, exhausted, stressed and starving, at around 3.30pm. PHEW!!
I was a little disappointed because I'd hoped to pop into Maggies for a bit of restorative and soothing company. Hopefully my daughter will be taking me next time, and I KNOW she will want to visit Maggies too. Roll one next session.
