Herceptin effects

Less than one minute read time.

Hiya, well have recovered from my sicky week.  That was the sickest I've been since the chemo started!  I assumed it was after a weekend of mild excess but it carried on for a week and two days then suddenly disappeared!  Haven't thrown up in years but certainly used to it now.  The worst is the sharp mouthwashy feeling in the gullet and back of throat.

Be interesting to see if this is something that will happen after every CMF/Herceptin course or whether it was a one-off, maybe due to a bug, maybe due to getting a loading dose of Herceptin as well?  Who knows.  I'll tell the doc all about it anyway and see what he says.

    Hey Vicky,

I'm really sorry you have felt so awful this week.  I had a slightly different chemo to you...FEC and Taxotere and I started on Herceptin with the Tax.  I just wanted to reassure you though that I was on Herceptin for almost a year and a half before and have been on it a year again now.  I have never had any side effects from it so I reckon it may have been the chemo...even the loading dose shouldnt make you feel sick although it can make you feel a bit like you have the flu.  Definately speak to your oncologist about it and lets hope it doesnt happen again.

    All the best Chrissi xxx

    Hi Vicky,

I have been on herceptin for over 6 years now and never had any side effects from it. I would think it is the chemo element that is more likely to be causing problems for you. Do make sure you have enough anti-sickness meds off your onc ready for next time. If one doesn't work for you there are plenty of others - and stronger ones.

Hiya, I was a bit naughty and didn't bother wth the anti sickness, apart from that 12 hour one they give you.  I don't usually bother now cos I never had the sickness in previous treatments.  I did wonder if it was a bug as that was going around but I'll discuss it with the doc next week.  Thanks guys!
