Groshong times...

1 minute read time.

Hi, well started a new chapter in my trreatment now in a way - treatment through the Groshong line.  I had it put in yesterday.  The procedure took about an hour (as nice young hunky doctor said, they take their time with these things...) and there was a fair amount of pushing and tugging to get it into the right position.  I'd say it doesn't hurt as such (mainly due to the local anaesthetic) but you feel lots of pressure on your neck and chest as they tug away - it doesn't last long and my nurses and doctor talked me through what they were doing.  They use an X-ray to make sure it's in the right position and get you to breathe deeply to take a picture and make sure the line is fixed correctly.  I worried more about having a heavy drape over my face, so they let me have a bit to peek through at the nearby wall!!

Doesn't feel too bad today today - can't feel it as such though around the neclk is pulling a bit at the moment - think that's more the plaster tho!  Got nice pipey bit sticking out the top of my boob - paranoid about breaking/bashing it but guess that's just something you get used to!

Hey Aunico....the pulling does ease off in a week or two and after it has healed there is no pain, don't be worried about bashing it, it doesn't hurt at all, just to warn you love, these lines don't like to give blood back, I have my fluids, I walk around for a bit while still connected and it always gives blood back when flushed before my chemo goes in. They make such a difference to treatment, it is great. Good luck with your treatment love, I hope all goes well...love Carol x

Thanks Carol!  I've got more used to it over the last couple of days - not being quite as gentle with myself as before.  Nice big bruise forming but was expecting that!

I did ask the nurses what to do when I have a shower but they were quite vague.  They seemed to say that I don't need to over-worry about it.  A PICC line can be easily wrapped up I suppose but it's more tricky on the chest.
