Gearing myself up for the hair chop

1 minute read time.

Hi all, well this week has seen a big improvement in terms of general symptoms.  I am on day 11 now and the indigestion type feelings have settled down a lot.  I had a curry yesterday which was a little hotter than I realised at first it was going to be - but it was too yummy to leave - despite the tingly burny sensations I was getting.  Luckily nothing untoward happened as a result, and today I've felt pretty good.  I'm taking it a day at a time, not being very experienced obviously at this sort of thing, but 11 days in I am feeling more normal than before, so hopefully this means my blood levels are back on the up!

The next big thing is the big hair chop.   I've been putting it off as much as possible, but I do want it short before it starts coming out (it's shoulder length and quite thick at the moment), and this weekend was picked as my second course is coming up in just over a week.  It's a bit of a scary thing seeing as all my lovely hair will be disappearing for possibly months and months...there is an element of control if we do it rather than the drugs though...but it'll still be scary!!

Hi Aunico, Totally understand your feelings about your hair.  Mine was a fine bob and had it cut short before my first chemo, am having my second chemo next week and my hair started falling out last week  but in small clumps so I bit the bullet and went to the barbers and had it shaved off (I did have tears, the poor chap who shaved!!!! bless ).  This was really tough to do but at least now  I don't wake up with hair on my pillow or in my coffee cup!!! We can take control and because so much is out of our control with cancer thought this was good idea, it's quite liberating really and it will grow back :-)  Hope all goes well for you.

    Hugs,

    Alex

Hi thanks for the replies.  It was quite good fun in the end as my husband had to get the craft scissors out - his clippers just would not cut through it all!!  After a bit of hacking it looked quite funky!

It's now a bit of a boyish short cut, we didn't shave it any further at the moment.  Next treatment is the 14th so got hopefully a bit of time before the clumps come falling out!

Got a bit of a tickle in the throat this morning and a mild headache around the eyes - got a bit worried cos of the warning about calling them up if not feeling well...but temperature is fine so I am really not sure.  Think I will watch myself today, but any tips about what to watch for are very much welcomed!
