Unsure of what to do

2 minute read time.

I am not sure if this will help me by writing this down on here but here goes :-).

I moved in to my new house in June this year, two days later I found a lump after being in the shower. This lump was in my right testicle. I was quite shocked and scared as it was quite large and I was amazed that I hadnt found it earlier. I waited a week before going to the doctor - mainly because my work dont like it if you take time off to go to the doctor!

I went that week and saw two doctors who examined me and talked to me asking if there were any other symptoms. They both decided that it was best to send me to the Ultrasound department to see what It was. I got the impression that they were looking for cancer. They also said that they didnt see the need to give me antibiotics as they didnt beleive it was an infection so I was quite convinced that it was cancer also.

In the meantime I returned to work and as the next week went past i got more uncomfortable and noticed a sudden large swelling above the testicle. I was very scared by this point and immediatly went back to the doctors. I saw the same doctor and he got a second opinion from another higher up doctor. I was very shocked when the higher up doctor said quite quickly how he thought it was epidimitis and that antibiotics were needed. I had gone in asking for the scan to be brought forward because it was still over 2 weeks away!. He said there was no need. I left and picked up the prescription and took the dose for just under the 2 weeks, i eventually stopped taking them because they made no change at all. I had my scan that week and was told that I needed reffering to a urologist, on my way home I got a call telling me that my appointment had been made for the monday ( 2 days later)! I was really worried by this time.

On the monday I went to the hospital and was seen by a surgeon consultant, I knew there was something wrong when he asked my mum to come in and there was a macmillan nurse there.

Inside the room he told me that he was in no doubt that it was cancer and that It needed to come out asap. He booked me in 2 days later and operated. It went well and i left the same day. The next few days were quite painfull and stressfull because i hate sitting about!. I am currently waiting for the CT scan this week and the results of the tumour and blood tests.

I am extremely stressed at the moment and just want to know what happens next, its the waiting thats worse. I have been told that it is likely that I will be given chemo. The length of treatment and the drugs will only be known after the ct scan and the tumour results are in.

Fingers crossed for friday!

    Iain.

Good luck with the results hun and with a bit of luck they may just be normal. It all moves so fast and sometimes you feel that you are looking in on your own life, the waiting is the worst part, once you know what you are dealing with you can try to get on with it. Remember with TC the cure rate is one of the best.

hello Iain - I had a look at the Cancer Research UK website, and this is a quote " The outlook for testicular cancer is one of the best for all cancers".

You are feeling shocked and disorientated at the moment - we all do when we find we've got cancer, no matter what sort. Waiting is dreadful, and now you've got to wait for your results, but because you've been treated as an emergency you've got your first surgery over quite quickly, which is a really positive thing. It'll be hard, but just tell yourself you've done everything you can so far. You can't change the past, and you can't speed things up by worrying, so try to focus on stuff you really like instead.

Oh - and try not to go googling too much :0) Here's a link to the Cancer Research website which might help:-

Take it easy, fingers crossed for Friday!

    Cheers, Jim

    Hi Iain,

You probably feel right now you've been knocked sideways by a sledge hammer!!! We all feel the same when we hear those dreaded words, but as everyone else has said try not to worry too much, wait for your results and then its small steps, one and at a time.  We are all here on this site to support you!

Best wishes to you and yours and keeping everything crossed for friday for you.
