I had my second surgery on Wednesday 6th September. I went into hospital at 7.15 am and went down for surgery at 3.30 pm. I had a lumpectomy on my left side and a full auxiliary clearance on my right side. Shortly after waking up I was brought to my ward. I had to wear an oxygen mask for a number of hours as the morphine that they gave me for the pain was affecting my oxygen levels. I also had a drain in. The day after the operation I was visited by my physiotherapist who gave me two booklets, one called Advice and exercises following breast surgery which shows you the exercises you need to do after a full auxiliary clearance and a booklet on how to avoid lymphoedema after cancer treatment. I spent five days in hospital.
I ended up back in hospital three weeks after the surgery due to an infection. I was put on IV antibiotics and spent 12 days in hospital.
My results took about 5 weeks to come back. I finally got good news on Thursday 12th October, my surgeon was delighted to tell me that he got the cancer and there was no cancer in the lymph nodes that he took. He then told me that he would be referring me for Radiotherapy and that he would also be referring me to oncology. He said that it would probably take about two to three weeks for the appointments to come through as I needed to heal. It took me a while to get my head around being cancer free at last.
Just waiting for my appointments to come through now which hopefully will be soon.
