About a week after my CT and Bone scans I got a phone call from my breast care nurse to say my scans were clear but they noticed a change in my scar tissue on my left breast from when I had surgery in March 2021 so they wanted me to have an ultrasound. I already had a breast clinic appointment so she said I could come in anytime after nine am on the day of my appointment and ask for her and she would arrange the ultrasound then and there. I was going away following day so I thought I'd just get over and done with so that it wasn't hanging over me. When I got to the clinic I had to wait for a while as my surgeon decided he wanted to do a wound check. When he called me in he checked my wounds and was happy with them. My BCN filled out the form and then sent me down to the ex-ray department to have my ultrasound.
When I got into the ultrasound room the radiologist for some reason checked my right breast which was alright so I had to remind him that it was my left breast that needed to be checked. He then told me that the scar tissue had changed shape though he was pretty certain it was just further scar tissue. He took his time about checking it and though he was convinced it was scar tissue he did a few biopsies to be on the safe side.
I rang my BCN just over a week before my next appointment in the breast clinic as I was anxious to know the results of my biopsies. She didn't answer so I left her a message and she got back to me a week before my appointment. I asked if the results were back and she said they were and that they had found some cancer in the breast close to the scar tissue. She said it was a local recurrence of Triple Negative breast cancer. While I was kind of suspecting it I still was shocked to hear that it was back. But at least I had a week to get used to the idea before I saw my surgeon.
I had my clinic appointment last Thursday. He's decided to do another lumpectomy and a node removal and he's also going to remove the nodes from my right side which means that I'll be a couple of days in hospital and I will need a drain. He didn't have s surgery date for me.
I had a chat with my BCN after he was finished with me and she said she'd try to get a date as soon as possible but they are very busy surgery wise at the moment so it'd be about 3 to 4 weeks before I'd have surgery.
