CT and Bone Scans

2 minute read time.

I had the CT and bone scans yesterday.  I had the CT in the morning.  I didn't need to have the drink they just injected me with whatever they use to show up and various organs in my body.  I had the appointment for 9.15 but I had a bit of a wait to be seen.  Luckily I had brought my kindle with me.  When he nurse eventually called me she asked me the usual questions and then put a cannula in my hand.  Shortly afterwards I was called into the scan room and lay on the scan bed.  The bed then moved me into the machine which is shaped like a donut.  The machine moved over me and told me when to hold my breath.  As the contrast was going in I had a sensation as if I wanted to go to the toilet but I didn't.  Once the scan was done I left and went to the ex-ray department.  After a wait of a few minutes I was called into the nuclear medicine room and had to wait while the nurse prepared the nuclear medicine to inject into me.  When she called me into the injection room she explained the procedure to me.  She then injected the radioactive material into me and took the cannula out of my hand.  She then went off to give me my appointment letter for  the bone scan.  Once I had the letter I left the hospital and went up to my Aunt's house to wait until my appointment time which was for 1 pm.

My Aunt brought me back to the hospital close to my appointment time.  When I arrived at the ex-ray department I was told I could go straight to the nuclear medicine room which I did.  The nurse came out a few minutes after I arrived and told me to go to the toilet five minutes before my appointment time which I did.  She came back out a few minutes later and asked me if I had gone to the toilet and I answered that I had.  A few minutes after that I was called into the scan room and lay on the scan bed.  The nurse then explained what was going to happen. Once that was done the machine moved into position just above my head and then the machine started to move down my body.  I kept my eyes closed while the machine was over my head.  The scan took about 25 minutes and once it was done I had to wait a few minutes to make sure they didn't need to do anything further which they didn't.  Once I was given the go ahead I left the hospital.

I have a two week wait for my results.
