You're no different to any other mum. Any mum would hate to see their child diagnosed with cancer whatever their age. My mum was in pieces when I had to have surgery and chemo, and I'm 51!  Everybody's chemo is different depending on what sort of cancer and at what stage it is. My chemo was also a 3 weekly cycle, so quite normal. I hope your son's treatment goes well. 8 months may seem quite daunting, but the time will go surprising quickly.

So sorry to hear this, it's so hard to cope emotionally let alone try to handle the facts too.

They might have brought an appt forward due to a bank holiday clash or something, I have found that they do not tell you anything unless you ask, I spoke with mum about her treatment and oncology appts and asked her if I could go to the oncology appts with her and also if she wanted me to push and probe about possibilities options etc and she did... I looked up on this site the link about 'what to ask' and went through it with her first - making sure we had 'no surprises', it was tough but we made the decision together... I have had to 'pick my moments' for these conversations as mum is very 'closed in', however, I think we have reached a plato.

You must be so worried, I really hope that you can have a chat with your son and let him know that you want to help and be there for him and doing that will mean knowing what and how you can do that ...... huggs for you and yours xxxxxxx
