Triple Negative

Less than one minute read time.
I found out yesterday that i am 'triple negative' so will not be receptive to Herceptin following chemo and surgery. Having read up on this am still none the wiser really as to how i will be treated , if at all, in the future???? Also have read about how you can test as being 'negative' when you are pregnant as you have so many hormones frolicking in your body anyway. So uncertainty still reigns - until i speak to lovely Dr Jones in 2 weeks. ???? Sally Determined to fight this.... :b

Good for you Sally, give this bl**dy thing all you've got.  My cancer was oestrogen receptor positive (or something like that lol).  I don't  remember being told about other hormone receptors.  It wasn't until I attended a gynaecology clinic and they asked me about this that they looked up my notes and told me I was progesterone positive.  As for the HER, I haven't a clue, will have to ask at my next appointment.  Good luck with forthcoming surgery and chemo.  Christine xx

Hi Sally, I'm sorry you find yourself on this site and especially during your pregnancy too.  I am 28 and HER2 positive so I have Herceptin. I am hormone receptor negative and was told this is/was due to my age at dx(26).  I have 3 little ones, well not so little they seem to be growing very fast!! I have been lucky enough to take part in various support activities for younger women with bc and have spoken to a few triple negative women. I think they do feel a little in limbo and anxious about the fact there really isnt any further treatment after chemo, surgery or rads. I imagine this must be very frustrating. I just wanted to say though if you wanted to turn it around you could think of it that at least nothing within your body is going to encourage the cancer to grow as it could with ER/HER2 + cancers.  Try to turn it into a positive. I think there are pros and cons to all scenarios and everyones cancer journey will be very different but the fears and worries remain the same. If you ever need to chat I'm always online!!(not as bad as it sounds!!)

    All the best

    Love Chrissi

Ps If you dont want to wait 2 weeks til you see Dr Jones you could try phoning the breast cancer care helpline or the macmillan nurses number on here.  They are fab for support and bcc offer lots of different stuff for us youngsters!! x

    Hi Sally

Guess who? and guess what I have too, yes triple negative breast cancer. After my exciting news last week I was told on Wednesday that I need chemo, even after they told me I wouldnt because the cancer hadnt spread, it was the call of the Oncologist not the doctors assistant to make that call.  I dont even know if its the right diagnosis any more.

In any case, I have the same as you and seems I will be catching up with the treatments, I start in Oct.

As I dont have children and want children, my eggs will be frozen next week.

This has hit me like a ton of bricks as I had put chemo behind me thanks to idiot who said to much.

I ,like you dont understand however its an agressive cancer. Ill share my knowledge it you share yours. Wish I could tell you more.

My heart is with you Sally, speak soon

    xxx

    Hi all,

My mother in law has been diagnosed with triple -ve which she has left for 2 years before telling us about it so pretty advanced.  She is to start chemo on 2/10 FEC 90 - does this mean anything to any of you?  Also has metastasis in lungs.  Don't know what to do for the best.

Think you are the bestest strongest woman in the world - so inspired by you all.

    Love and prayers to you

    Ann
