What to do?...

Less than one minute read time.

Hi all, not quite sure where to start with this......

I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer on 21.01.21.
I had a radical hysterectomy on 01.03.21, safe to say it’s been a roller coaster, bt I don’t need to tell all of you that

The cancer was picked up on my routine cervical screening in November 2020, I had been clear of anything on any screening before that, never had any symptoms
however…
… my consultant asked to see me yesterday as he had received results back from an audit they had carried out on all of my screening up until November 2020, part of the cancer diagnosis process.
I was told that the results of the audit had showed that pre-cancerous cells were found on my screening in 2017 however this was reported as clear.

I was told that if this was picked up in 2017 (as it should have) then my treatment would have been very different, I basically wouldn’t have had to go through the last two years of hurt and worry and pain, it’s such difficult information to process.

Anyone else been in a similar situation?

  • Hi  sorry to read your blog. I have no experience of an event similar to this but let's see if others pick up on your blog.

I hardly ever read the blogs on the site and possibly your question may get lost in the community feed but you may want to put this up in the Cervical cancer group as well as you never know if there are folks in the group with the same experience.

What to do?....... is this negligence?

You may want to post your question in our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

  • Hello Moneypenny79 - I have a slightly similar history in that I was first diagnosed in March 2018 and asked if I could be treated at another centre, where I was rescanned and then told it was all pre-cancerous.  The only explanation I received was “pathology is not an exact science” I’ve had regular colposcopy checks since then and day surgeries to prevent it developing until June 2022 when a tumour was found to have developed quite rapidly.   Screening has not been an issue as I am well past the upper age.  Being philosophical, who knows what I would be dealing with now if I’d had unnecessary radiotherapy 5 years ago.  I’ve had so many what if moments during my recent gruelling treatment.  My current MDT seem  equally

  •  My current MDT are mystified about the turn of events too, so I feel I have to accept what’s happened is done now, and try and move on.

  • Hi Moneypenny, I'm really sorry to hear of your experience. Dealing with "what ifs" can be really traumatic. I haven't experienced anything like this (I'm being treated for breast cancer), but just wanted to reach out in support and wish you well for moving forward x
