The Beginning

1 minute read time.

So I said I was going to write a blog for a few reasons.

A) To keep everyone I know informed of what is going on.

B) To get things straight in my own head

C) to create awareness.

After having a biopsy, MRI scan and a chest x ray I was diagnosed with Cervical cancer on Wednesday 24th November 2010. I was assigned my own Nurse who was very helpful and explained that I had stage 1b1 CC. I had to wait till the day after when all the Big Boffins got together to discuss my case and course of action. I was told that I would have to have a PET scan because 1 of the many 100's of lymph nods in my groin was inflamed and the PET scan will show if this is cancer. The Big Boffin Meeting also showed that the cancer was bigger than first thought moving me up to a stage 1B2. They have decided to treat this with Radio and Chemo therapy

So PET scan on Tuesday 30th Novemebr 2010 and then a meeting with another Boffin on Friday 3rd November 2010 to decide the course of treatment and talk about fertility. From what my research and reading has shown is that my fertility is going to be affected because the radio therapy kills the eggs and brings on the menopause. So this information is more of a shock than the cancer at the minute.

So that the facts! I am going to keep this updated with all the major steps from now untill ... well.... when ever. This is going to be something that is going to be with me for a long time if not my entire life.

I have a fantastic network of friends and family around me and hope that people can draw something from reading my story ( I know I have from reading others stories)

Thanks for reading

    Hi Kathy,

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in June stage 2B and finished 6 weeks of radiotherapy and 6 cycles of chemo at the end of August. I am now 3 months on and have my appointment tomorrow to find out the results of my MRI scan 2 weeks ago.

I know it all seems daunting at the moment but like everyone has said once you have all the information and start the treatment time goes really quickly.

Good luck and I look forward to reading your blog.

    Lou

    Hi Kathy,

I hope you are doing well with your treatment and are getting better. Out of curiosity, would you mind telling me how you were suspected to have cervical cancer please? Like what were your symptoms etc.

    Thanks x

Hi there I was back and forth from the drs for 8 months with discharge and was fobbed off with it's this , it's that. The discharge got worst I had to wear a sanitary towel all the time. I had some bleeding after sex but put this down to having a period because I have the implant which gave me irregular periods any way. that's it it wasn't unroll I ment back to the drs and she said we will take more swabs and when she examined me noticed a lot of discharged and did an internal and felt " an abnormality on my cervix"   Hope this helps I have no discharge now drs can't see the tumour just waiting for my MRI scan to hopefully tell me I'm clear. Good luck with ur journey x
