Hair falling out for a second time.

Less than one minute read time.
Hi, I am new here and this is my first blog. My wife is 41 and has secondary breast cancer. She was diagnosed in December 2008 and has undergone 8 FEC chemo treatments. Her hair fell out quite quickly at the start of her chemo but she was relieved when it started to grow back a few months ago. She finished her last treatment about 4 weeks ago and just last week we noticed her hair was starting to fall out again. Is this common? has it happened to anyone elso and will it grow back stronger? My wife is very positive and generally strong, but I know if her hair all falls out again it will be a major blow to her confidence.

I am sorry to hear this is happening to your wife but I am afraid I don't have an answer for you - I wondered if you would consider ringing up the cancerbackup nurse helpline and asking for their expert advice. I know you will be guranteed a friendly ear and an educated answer - the number is 0808 800 1234 and the kines are manned weekdays till 8pm I think.

Obviously other members may reply also with similar stories and to welcome you to the site. In anycase I wish you both the very best, from another breast cancer person with secondaries, Jools xx

Not sure if this is of much help, but read on another site that several peoples hair when first came through was rather fragile and did have a tendancy to fall out again.

However it then grew back much stronger.

Also some women noted that the first growth was v curly, and often a different colour but second growth was usually more their usual.

Think the fragility of the new growth is why its not recomended to use harsh hair dyes (ie the permanent ones) for quite a while after regrowth.

    All the best

    Hi Mike,

A friend had chemo last year for breast cancer, her hair fell out twice but she has a great head of hair now and no problems since. Her treatment finished about 6 months ago
