What a body shocker...

Less than one minute read time.

On April 19 2010 I was diagnosed with Melanoma secondaries, 10 years after a malignant melanoma was removed from my shoulder.  When my wife and I were hearing the news my body went into a complete shock state, with the muscles on my back seizing up with unbelievable agony.

We were expecting chemo and radio therapies but have been informed that they are really not effective on secondaries in the bone, lungs and liver.  We are now putting all our hopes on the very latest drugs trials from Rosch, Scancell and BioVex.  Results should be back next week to see whether I have the mutated gene that will allow me to start the Rosch Trial.  The waiting around is so tough as every day seems a wasted day.

I have undergone some radical dietary changes and have started Meditation classes with my wife to give us some time out!

Keeping strong and I'm going to fight this for as long as possible!

Positive thoughts and love to all fellow sufferers of this cancer.

    Welcome Timbo!

It is a bit of a shock when you're diagnosed with metastatic melanoma, I bet we all expected to have a bit of chemo or radiotherapy thrown our way!  I know when I found the lump in my groin I hoped it was anything but melanoma!

Good luck with the tests, I hope you are a mutant, but if not there's a couple of other trials on the go that might suit.

    D. Telegraph had a very hopeful article of a 'virus' that can shrink tumours. Have al ook. It is most encouraging. Can't believe yours came back after 10 yrs - just too awful. Breakthru's happening all the time. Keep the Faith!

    Hi Timbo,

I know how you must have felt when that horrible bombshell was dropped on you after a long period of good health. I hope you get on a drugs trial quickly & it is effective for you. I also applaud the control you are taking over your health & life by changing your diet & doing meditation. I'm not a health freak but I do think that just the smallest changes to our every day lives are beneficial - particularly if it makes you feel calmer, more in control and more able to cope with whatever each day is going to throw at you & your family. Good luck with your future treatment & all the melanoma mates are here for you should you need our advive, support or just a listending ear. Take care & best wishes to you & your family, Angie

    Hi Timbo

Yes a shocker to say the least. Melanoma is one sneaky cancer. It can lull you into a false sense of security and then hit you right between the eyes when you are not expecting it.

I really hope you find a suitable trial and will keep everything crossed for you. As you say the waiting game is the hardest part of all. You will find this site, as we all do, a wonderful help and support. (Even if its just to have a vent for your feelings) We have all been there. Keep in touch and let us all know what happens.

    Good Luck

    Barb xx
