Mummy and her Special medicine

1 minute read time.

I said I would post the little leaflet i wrote for my little ones to read so here it is....

Mummy and her Special Medicine J

Mummy had a little lump in her leg. The lump had something bad in it called Sarcoma, which can make you feel very ill K. So Mummy went to the hospital to have an operation to take the bad lump out of her leg. It didn’t hurt her as the doctor did it while she was asleep.

Now mummy’s leg is getting better J

The doctor wants to make sure the Sarcoma from the lump doesn’t come back. If it does it could make Mummy very ill.  The doctor will give Mummy a Special Medicine to make sure it doesn’t come back again. Sometimes the Special Medicine will make mummy feel a bit sick and very sleepy but the doctor will give her another medicine to make Mummy feel better if this happens. The Special Medicine will make all of Mummy’s hair fall out, but when Mummy has finished taking her Special Medicine, all her hair will grow back J

What is Sarcoma?

Sarcoma is something which grows in the body that shouldn’t be there. It can make you ill. Doctors can give you medicine to make it go away.

    Hiya Mei

What a reassuring way to tell the children!  I'll plagiarise it and stick it on my fridge to remind me that the doctors made sure my lump doesn't come back.  Thank you.

Wishing you all the very best

    hi

i said all of the same words to my great neice the only time she had heard the word cancer was that she knew that is what her grandad had had and that it had taken him to  heaven all this before she was born at 6 years old we didn't want her to think i was going to die she stays with me a lot at weekends so that was going to change so with her mum we told her that i wasn't very well and that the special medicine was going to make my hair fall out and make me very tired but i would be fine when the medicine was finished i would be alot better .

she took all this information and never asked what the sickness was called she was a little star when she came rubbing my head for luck she said and she was so excited when my hair started to grow back .if only some adults had taken it the same but thats life .

    hugs to all jackie

A superb way of telling your children, I could well imagine that it was one of the hardest things you've had to do (it was for me) but this is great.

I told my girl I had bad germs at first, only because I wanted to drip feed her information, then after surgery I explained that the germs were cancer. Children can be so very strong and kind, just when you think they won't. They continue to amaze and inspire me.

I wish you and your family all the best x good luck x

Its a fantastic way of telling children. Well done. My niece is 11 and has learnt my mum has cancer but we all sat her down and explained it to her in our own words. I think the word Cancer is scary enough on its own with out the adverts and things that seem to be everywhere now days.

    Thanks for sharing
