It started with a gasp...

1 minute read time.

When my sister phoned and told me our mum had been diagnosed with cancer, Myeloma. A gasp is what came out. I wonder what my mum did when she was told.

Hi, this is my blog about my mum, her health and what effect it has on me and my family.

Funny what goes through your head, mine is usually rather empty or thinking about cakes… I like cakes. However those thoughts vanished — I thought what an idiot! Why did I not think something else was up. My mum had never complained about pain like this.

My mum who lives alone has been ill for some time now, and had been signed off work with ever decreasing health. Chest problems, serious back pain and mobility in general, the doctor kept giving her painkillers and then told her she had suspected osteoporosis. Eventually it was picked up, from a doctor treating her for another condition, (her height had decreased by several inches) We have since found out 3 vertebrates had collapsed. Since then she has been in hospital having chemo and radiothearpy.

So this is were I am at, I travelling to Wales to see her this weekend, it’s my mums birthday (I’m in Scotland), so I will see how she is getting on, and I better get her some cake!

    Hello and welcome Raifster.

I don't know about your mum's particular type of cancer, but I'm sure you find lots of people on here who can give you loads of support.

I hope your mum's treatment goes well and hope you have a nice break with her. It would be good if the weather is better in Wales than it is here!

    Best wishes, Christine xx
