So I had all my scans and, at my consultant meeting on 15th April, it was confirmed that there is no sign of cancer anywhere else - yippee.
The decision has been that I need a mastectomy with full axillary node removal and reconstruction, only problem is the local NHS unit cannot fit me in for surgery until June - really????
Apparently, due to full lists and leave they are currently offering most cases surgery in mid to late June earliest. Thing is I'm already nearly six weeks post-diagnosis and do not think it wise to wait another 8 weeks for anything to happen and neither does my consultant even though they cannot do anything about it.
Thankfully I have private medical insurance, but that has now put me in the awful position of having to organise my own potentially life saving surgery - how is this acceptable?
I really wanted continuity of care and believe the NHS should be used wherever possible so this has really hacked me off.
