Mastectomy done - heading towards chemo

Less than one minute read time.

Well I had my mastectomy on 10th May which went as well as can be expected. Turns out me and general anaesthetic don't mix!

Onwards we went - now had two aspirations for seroma but otherwise everything seems to be going okay.

Had my first meeting with my oncologist on 25th May, was told of the chemo treatment plan being either a) 6 cycles over 18 weeks or b) 4 cycles over 8 weeks followed by 4 cycles over 12 weeks.

But then, at the follow up meeting on 31st May, the treatment changed. Now "signed up" to 4 cycles over 8 weeks followed by 12 cycles over 12 weeks - eeks!! Scream

To add insult to injury I've also got to have a pump. Mainly because they can only use my right arm having had an axillary clearance and my veins are not the best.

    Hello Lisa,

thank you for sharing where you are. I am going to be 45 this coming October, so the same age group and I am sending so much positive energy. I went though the brain cancer with my hubby couple of years ago and if you ever want to talk, please do reach out. Anytime.

    I am thinking of you.

    Hi

Thanks for sharing ..i am 45 and just recovering from a lumpectomy ...I am due to have a mastectomy on the same breast now due to other areas of DCIS still present

did you have your tumour analysed and receive a score based on the onco test? This is what I am currently toy waiting for and following this score will be told my treatment plan

I am dreading it and feeling so anxious though also just want to get on with stuff as the waking is terrible.

out of interest, did you have any reconstruction during your op or have you not chosen that route?

    thanks
