What is it like after a double mastectomy?

Less than one minute read time.
I am new to this site. I have had chemotherapy for bi-lateral breast cancer and next Monday (ll August) I have an operation for a bi-lateral mastectomy and all the lymph nodes being removed one side and 10 removed the other. Later this will be followed by radiotherapy. Can anyone tell me what it was like waking up after the op? Were you in much pain? Did it take you long to get the use of your arms back? The possibility of limphodemia and never having flexibility in my arms is worrying me more than being flat chested!

I can't give you the answers to your questions, but am sure that someone will come along any minute to help you (my problems are at the other end), but I just want to wish you all the very very best with your op, and with the recovery.  You will get excellent advice as soon as the BC ladies see your message.  Have you also posted a question on the forums, either the New Persons, saying Hallo, or more specifically the BC forum.  I mention this because the forum topics are refreshed every time someone posts another response, whereas the Blogs just get pushed out of sight as other blogs are posted.

With very best wishes and lots of love xxxxx Penny

Hi Maureen Jean - like Penny, I am sorry I can't answer your question regarding the operation you will be having on 11th August, but there is bound to be someone on our lovely site who will read your blog and they will have the information you're looking for. I do want to wish you well for the day of your operation, and for your "speedy" recovery afterwards.

Take heart in the knowledge that you're not alone sweetheart, all of us are here and we try to help each other as much as we can. with love from kate xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
