A bowler with ‘balls’ Receiving a diagnosis.

1 minute read time.

My dad is 84yrs old, loves his bowling, Will always try to get people to join.
Biopsy 4 weeks ago, results yesterday.

Did not expect this diagnosis: small cancer back of his tongue. Now awaiting ct, mri and uss, operation shortly after - 4 days in hospital.

The Consultant was absolutely brilliant - positive and funny, so was my dad.

  • My dad asked…Will he still be able to play bowls afterwards?  asked which arm - right handed…so ‘yes’ a few weeks later  after the op.  Will the op improve my bowls…no guarantee with that one.

He told my dad he looks fit and ‘well covered’ lol.

Now, there’s not a lot to do until the results come back. The consultant said as it’s small,  he has the best of the cancers, and will take out some lymph node, doesn’t think he will need further treatment.

I couldn’t resist looking at Dr Google - but it was ok.

Why ask which arm he bowls with?, aaaah ….it maybe he’s going to take out nodes from the left side, may affect his shoulder (and neck)

How much tongue will be removed…hopefully only enough to remove the cancer and surrounding area, and leave lots left.

speech therapist, dietitian, oncologist will be involved.

Thing is that adds more questions, can’t really  ask anything, til we get the results back.

Meanwhile he’s back to his bowling.

Feeling anxious but positive. Go dad!!
