caring for my temally ill partner

Less than one minute read time.
i have been caring for my partner since he was diagnosed with termanal lung cancer in june 2008. he has had chemo wich he had to stop as he got an infection and nearly died so when he was well enough they gave him a bout of radiotheropy to give him more time and a better quality of life,he is 75yrs old and we have been together for 25yrs he has had about 6 months of near normal day to day living but has been unwell for a number of months now. macmillan have been fantastic they helped us get new electrical kitchen equipment and even a new bed, we have allways worked and could not afford to replace worn out things so it was a great help now we dont put the heating on much as we now owe the gas and electric £700. we are paying back at £28. per week i am thinking of opening the old coal fire up and go and get driftwood from the beech to heat the sitting room as electric and gas is too expensive.

I'm sorry that you have to go to such lengths to keep warm.     I can only imagine that you have explored all the avenues of financial support available.     Although it's not a quick-fix, do make use of the free cavity and wall insulation options - they do make a difference.     Your supplier should be able to do the paperwork.    Equally, Warmfront (a government agency) provides money for boiler upgrades.

Anyway, warm wishes to you both.    (No pun intended here)    I hope that you'll be able to make the best of your lives together without having to spend too much time worrying about your heating costs.
