After months of preparation, we have finally arrived at the first of the three major party conferences. First up, is the Liberal Democrats. They have chosen the lovely city of Liverpool to host their conference. Based on the water front in the famous Albert Dock, the Echo Arena conference centre is already buzzing with excitement.
Look closely and you will notice a number of well known journalists busily networking to get the latest scoop. Look again and see a range of famous faces, from Floella Benjamin to John Snow. Even Lembit Opik is around here somewhere.
After decades of being an opposition party, the Lib Dems come to this Conference in a position of power. They have the opportunity to shape the future of this country as in recovers from the recession. It’s fair to say that this time last year very few people expected them to hold such a key position in Government. I would suggest that even Vince Cable, the man who warned the world of financial meltdown, probably didn’t see this one coming.
Tomorrow's schedule is packed to the rafters. From meetings with MPs to fringe events, not forgetting Nick Clegg's key note speech. In the evening we will be joining other leading health charities at debate on the future of the NHS. My colleague Jeremy will be bringing you all the info from day two of the Lib Dem Conference.
