I am sorry that your Mum has been told she has lung cancer with spread to other parts of the body. I am sure that this has been a great shock to you and everyone else who care about your Mum. I am not able to give medical advice as I am a patient so if you want answers to the question posed in your blog can I suggest that you ring the nurse helpline which is a freephone number and is open mon-fri and staffed by qualified nurses with expertese in cancer (tel 0808 800 1234)

Although she has been told that she is incurable(or 'terminal') it does not necessarily mean that she will die soon - there are treatments available like chemotherapy etc which she may be offered. These treatments can sometimes slow down the tumour's growth and some people have a long gap between told their cancer isnt curable and them 'losing their fight'.

Although I have a different cancer I am in the same postion as your Mum. Please feel free to read my blogs.

I wish both you and your Mum well - perhaps when you have found out whether more treatment is available you will feel a little better. I hope there is something they can offer her. Will you keep giving us an update on how you are doing? Best wishes, Jools xx

Hi Shell - you must feel as though you're caught up in a nightmare and worrying yourself sick about your Mum. As Jools suggested in her reply to you, the best thing to do when you are looking for answers is to talk to the people who know, and the nurses on this site I'm sure should be able to answer most of your questions. For more detailed answers regarding your Mum's treatment plan etc, the best people to talk to are the consultants or cancer care nurses who are treating your Mum. I too have terminal cancer, but that does NOT mean I am willing to lay down and play possum, no sir. Don't despair sweetheart, as there are some very good and effective treatments out there which can be used to control/contain the cancer, giving us sufferers a longer and better quality of life. You're not alone - there are wonderful people on this site, who are only too willing to help whenever they can. I wish you and your Mum all the very best, and please let us know how you get along, with love     kate xxxxxxxxx
