the dreaded reviw

Less than one minute read time.

my partner had his review today after his radiotherapy on his brain was cut short. He has had his steroids cut down to just one a day for the next 8 days and after that they stop altogether,so dont know what to expect,he knows he will lose his hair in the next 10 days.He still thinks he can be cured of this cancer, even though he has been told its gone too far and the fact that they told him the radio was to ease the sympoms of the cancer,i just dont know what to say when he goes into a conversation about being cured,he thinks he will be fine now that he has had the radio, even though they have not treated the mass on his lung, where do we go from here,i just dont know.

    Hi Lynn

My husband has Lung and Prostate cancer at first when he was so ill in hospital after Chemo a doctor said a year five years later heis still doing well.If it helps your partner to talk about the future maybe that will keep him going ther is never any certainty of time just enjoy every day as we do take care thinking of you both love Maureen xx

  • Lots of patients go into denial about their diagnosis as it is the  only way they can handle the news. This happened with my brother-in-law and my sister found it very difficult dealing with his conviction he would be 'cured'. She tried to tell him, very gently, that he was being very optimistic but he continued to be convinced he would recover. (He didn't.)

You know your partner better than we do so you will have to deal with him the way you feel best.

    Best wishes,

    KateG
