wills

Less than one minute read time.
Look I know that I'm not going to die tomorrow or even next week, but for what ever reason I couldn't sleep last night, I have no money, no life insurance, I've put enough money (I hope) into an ISA account in my hubby's name to bury me, and then all there is is a joint savings account with a couple of quid in it and a constantly overdrawn current account in my name, we don't own our own home or anything so would there be any need for a will, after all I've got nothing to leave, except maybe a few bills.lol. I don't know the daft stuff that worry you through the night, still if we didn't worry when we can't sleep what would we think about?

Good question! Maybe you could get a fixed fee or free half hour session with a solicitor just to check? At least you could then sleep at night lol.

First stop for me would be Citizens Advice Bureau.  They can often arrange/suggest a free short session with a local solicitor.

Its best to be sure on things like this.

    Best of luck, Mike

Not sure about this, but I think it's worth doing a will just to name your executor (your husband will do), so that there is no risk that a solicitor will charge for this... Worth checking anyway..

    Hi Linda

I agree with Mike the CAB is a good start.  I think that in the case of married couples, the partner automatically inherits the estate, But if you had a special possession even if its of no great value or a piece jewellery that you wanted to leave to someone, it would best to have that written somewhere and witnessed.

Anyway you aren't going anywhere for a long while I hope.

I wake up and remember all the things I haven't done, like cancel the milk - but I also have some weird dreams which I wont' share.

    Take care

  • Hi Linda,

PLEASE make a will! You say you have nothing to leave but what if you won the lottery, or someone else left you some money? You can make the will yourself saying something simple like "I leave everything I own to Fred " (or whoever!). Then you must sign and date it in front of two witnesses neither of whom must benefit from the will. It is then a good idea to lodge the will somewhere safe - your bank will store it for you. If you don't feel confident doing it yourself there are some charities who will do it for you (probably in the hope you leave something to their charity!).

My father didn't leave a will and my mother was left up sh*t creak without a paddle. His bank account was in his name (she didn't have one) and the account was frozen until they could sort it. She had to depend on family hand-outs.

Oh yes... and don't go dropping off your perch just yet!
