Help and advice needed

1 minute read time.

Hiya,  In December 2009 my mum was told she had two tumours in her pelvis about 12 centimeters long and on New years eve was told she had 50% chance of survival.  She started a 6 weeks course or radio therepy and at the end was told the cancer hadnt gone but had shrunk massively and much more than they expected and after having one more session of radio therepy and 3 lots of brachey was told they were very confident she would be in remission within 4 months.  Two months later she had a scan and  again was told she was cancer free apart from a couple of small spots which they felt would go over the next few weeks from the radio therepy.  8 weeks later she went for a check up and was having a really really bloated tum, I would say she looks 6 months pregnant.  She had a scan and xray and was told her cancer had spread to her stomach and she had months to live, they mentioned chemo but it would only prolong her life for a few weeks.  I had no idea cancer could spread this fast and I'm cluting at straws to keep her with us for a couple more years.  Ive read that you can have a stomach removed, does anyone know if this is an option?  also Ive contacted a top german doctor who treated Farrah Fawcette and gave her a couple more years.  Any advice of similar experiences would be really welcome.  Still cant beleive this is happening. My husband lost his mum 4 years ago to a similar cancer at the same age as my mum 54.  So sad :(

    Hi There

My husband had his stomach removed 4 weeks ago, he was in hospital for 10 days, he has recoved moderately well, can only eat very small meals, so basically little and often, but overall he is doing pretty well, the operation is similar to the gastric band surgery except they remove the whole stomach, if i can answer any questions for you please dont hesitate to email me.

Hope your mum and you are coping the best way you can.

    Hi Lucy,

Steph is correct you can have your stomach removed and still survive. But it will be little and often. So just take things easy. Good Luck.

Take care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xxx

Ask your Mum to try and not worry. Easier said than done.

Hi guys thanks you for all your comments I really appreciate your help and kind words.  I spoke to the docs and they confirmed they are unable to remove the stomach as she doesnt have enough good cells so chemo is the only way forward, I just hope it gives us as much time as possible. She had over 3 litters of fluid drained today and its still going its made her feel a lot better and she seems so well and happy considering whats happening to her.  I just hope we get as much time with her as possible. Hope you are all well. xx
